DCH Inc. is a proud distributor of R-E-D Industrial Products for Fly Ash

R-E-D Fly Ash

For High Strength Concrete

R-E-D Fly Ash is a byproduct of coal-burning electric generating power plants. It is a fine pozzolanic powder consisting of tiny, solid, spherical particles high in alumina and silica.  It can be added to ordinary portland cement to form calcium silicate hydrate when reacting with free lime.  Due to the particle shape and size, less water needs to be used in the mix.

White Portland Cement

R-E-D Fly Ash goes through a quality control process to maintain its properties and conform to ASTM C618 and AASHTO M 295 requirements.  This process allows the properties, such as shape, size, distribution, and loss on ignition, to remain consistent for use in various concrete applications.

R-E-D Fly Ash can be used as a partial replacement of cement or part of a ternary blend in concrete.  R-E-D Fly Ash has distinctive characteristics that provide advantages to both fresh and hardened concrete. The main advantages include reduced heat of hydration, better workability, improved durability, and extended setting time.  R-E-D Fly Ash can be successfully used in difficult and destructive environments, in hot temperatures, and in sizable concrete applications.

Why DCH?

R-E-D Fly Ash in concrete can replace cement at 15-35% by weight for normal structures, although replacement levels can increase up to 70% for certain specified structures. The life expectancy of structures using R-E-D Fly Ash is increased due to the enhanced stability of concrete. Fly Ash use in concrete qualifies for credit under the U.S. Green Building Council’s popular LEED® rating system for sustainable construction. DCH takes pride in our ability to deliver products efficiently with a knowledgeable staff dedicated to providing support where you need it.

How Can R-E-D Fly ash be used?

– Structural and ready-mix concrete, cement, plastering, and brick mortar

– Pre-cast and pre-stressed concrete, pumped concrete, bricks, and blocks

– Pre-blended with the cement or subsequent blending at a concrete batching plant

– Roadways and asphalt

– Soil and waste stabilization

– A lightweight aggregate

– Filler in asphalt

– Raw material constituent in clinker production

How is Fly Ash Sustainable?

R-E-D Industrial Products Fly ash is a byproduct of burning refuse coal from former coal mines that contaminate water sources causing pollution. This process helps remove impure coal sources from the environment and produces a material that can be recovered and used to promote sustainability, versus being landfilled or piled up further polluting the environment.

R-E-D Industrial Products Fly ash is a product providing excellent value that is both viable and sustainable when used in concrete.  See below for how R-E-D Industrial Products is a sustainable choice as a supplementary cementitious material for your next project.

How Does this Apply to Sustainability?

  • Suitable for cold weather environments
  • Reduction in heat of hydration
  • Reduced water-to-cement ratio compared to other SCM mixes
  • Reduces carbon emissions
  • Low embodied energy reduces the overall environmental impact

Applications

  • Use in cold weather environments helps prevent cracking, bleeding, and permeability
  • Reduction in the amount of energy needed for concrete curing in cold weather environments
  • Less water is needed for the mix when fly ash is used
  • Fly ash partially replaces cement in the mixture which can help reduce carbon emissions
  • Reduction of the impact of the environment through lower embodied energy

How

  • Overall lower life cycle costs for finished concrete and structures
  • Water source sustainability due to less water use
  • Lower carbon footprint than using ordinary portland cement
  • Recovered and repurposed to lessen the impact on the environment
  • Reduced landfill waste and other environmental hazards
